Originally crafted in the 1950s for professionals in magnetic environments, the IWC Ingenieur gained iconic status in 1976 with the SL Jumbo reference 1832, designed by Gerald Genta. In 2023, IWC revitalized this classic with the Ingenieur Automatic 40 collection, now welcoming a timeless dark blue dial to its lineup.
This new edition stays true to Genta's design ethos, featuring an integrated bracelet and the signature screw-on bezel with five recesses. The barrel-shaped stainless steel case is modernized, measuring 40mm in diameter, under 46mm in length, and 10.8mm thick. Its brushed and polished finishes enhance its refined aesthetic. With 100m water resistance and a solid steel caseback, it also fulfills antimagnetic requirements.
The dark blue dial is the star of this reference IW328907. With an intricate grid pattern inspired by the 1976 SL Jumbo, the negative relief texture creates depth, while luminous markers and hands, a framed date window, and a dual-digit display add functionality. Crafted from stamped soft iron and PVD-coated for its vivid tone, this dial elevates the Ingenieur’s visual appeal.
The integrated bracelet complements the design with full-brushed finishing, polished bevels, and a concealed butterfly clasp. However, it lacks micro-adjustment and quick-release features.
Powered by the in-house calibre 32111, this watch boasts modern reliability, operating at 4Hz with a 5-day power reserve and a soft-iron inner case for magnetic resistance.
The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 Blue Dial IW328907 is available now and is not a limited edition, offering a striking blend of heritage and innovation.
