TAG Heuer pays homage to British motorsport with its latest limited edition timepiece, the Monaco Chronograph Racing Green. Following last year’s Racing Blue edition, this watch celebrates Britain’s iconic racing green—a color steeped in motorsport history since the early 20th century.
The origins of this distinctive hue trace back to the 1902 Gordon Bennett Cup, where British driver Selwyn Edge secured victory, establishing green as the national racing color. This year, TAG Heuer embraces this tradition by introducing a Monaco model featuring vibrant green and yellow accents reminiscent of classic British racing cars.
The watch showcases a silver sunray brushed dial with striking green opaline subdials, light green Super-LumiNova on the hour track, and a bright yellow lacquered chronograph seconds hand. A date window at 6 o’clock and polished silvered hour markers enhance the dial's sophistication.
Housed in a 39mm sandblasted grade-2 titanium case, this limited edition maintains the Monaco's iconic square shape, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 47.4mm and a thickness of 14.35mm. Water-resistant to 100 meters, it features a green calfskin strap adorned with racing perforations and a titanium deployant buckle. True to its heritage, the crown is positioned on the 9 o’clock side, a nod to the original 1969 design.
Powering the watch is the TAG Heuer Calibre 11, featuring a Sellita SW-300 base complemented by a Dubois-Depraz module for chronograph functionality. Limited to just 1,000 pieces, each caseback is engraved with “One of 1000,” underscoring its exclusivity.
While the Monaco may not appeal to everyone, its rich history and cultural significance in horology are undeniable. The sandblasted titanium case offer a fresh take on the classic, creating an engaging blend of green and yellow that evokes a nostalgic mid-20th-century aesthetic.
