Where are the weasels? | Tracking in our forest

Tracking weasels (Mustelidae) in the Maker’s Dozen woods! Come along for a few minutes of tracking with Kate on a very cold southern Ontario day. Some off-the-cuff vloggy descriptions of what I’m looking for/at when I look at tracks.

Though I don’t say explicitly in the video, these are tracks of a larger mustelid: either a pine marten or fisher (a large marten and a small fisher can be similar in size). Based on what we have seen here before, and that the woods are deciduous, this is most likely a fisher (Martes pennanti).

Fishers are welcome in our woods, playing their part in a balanced ecosystem.
